About the Workshops
The Science-X workshop is a one-time, half-day workshop. Participants of the competition will be guaranteed one workshop session. The workshops will be held at the Science Centre Singapore.
The Science-X workshop blends fun and science into a unique edutainment experience. Learn about the essence of exhibit design and find out what gives a science exhibit an X-factor. Be captivated by the guided scientific demonstrations and be delighted by a side of science that you have never seen before!

About the Instructors
Associate Professor Sow Chorng Haur
Professor Sow received a B.Sc. Degree (1st Class Honours) in Physics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1991. After spending two more years in NUS for research, he received a M.Sc. degree in Physics. He then went on to The University of Chicago and completed his PhD degree in 1998. During the period in 1999-2000, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Bell Laboratory, Lucent Technologies. He returned and joined the Department of Physics, NUS in 2001.
Professor Sow is now an Associate Professor with the department. He has authored and co-authored many papers in the field of nanoscience and nanomaterials. A firm believer of “Science for all”, he developed the highly interactive Physics Demonstration Laboratory in NUS. The “Demo Lab” has since received more than 5,000 visitors, playing host to students at levels ranging from Primary Schools to University. The Demo Lab aims to represent an environment where learning is achieved via fun-filled hands-on activities and explorations.
Dr Tsai Her Mann
Dr Tsai received his B.Sc. and PhD in aeronautical engineering from Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine, London. He has worked in Queen Mary College, London and DSO National Laboratories, Singapore, where he researched and developed codes for aerodynamics studies. In 2000, he co-founded a start-up company where he served as the CEO. Dr Tsai was also a principal investigator with Temasek Laboratories @ National University of Singapore (NUS), where he studied university-based defence-related aeronautical problems from flow control to flow computations, and from aerodynamic design to optimisation. He has taught in the Engineering Faculty in NUS for over 7 years. Dr Tsai has published over 110 articles and co-edited a book on flow control. He is currently a fellow of the Science Centre Singapore, and also teaches part-time in the Industrial Design Group of the Department of Architecture in NUS.
