- Participants are to create a stand-alone, self-explanatory exhibit that demonstrates a particular scientific concept or phenomenon unique to the physical sciences.
- Records of this intellectual journey, from inception to end, must be submitted in a log book. The log book should include the initial list of ideas which the team came up with. This should be followed by a record of the progress and decisions made from the initial brainstorming phase to the final phase of assembly and presentation. In the same log book, participants must note down their expenditure and material sources. Information sources used must be noted using proper citations.
- Each team must comprise three members.
- The exhibits will be set up by the team members for judging and viewing during the competition week (16 – 21 August 2010). Team members must be available during the judging period in the event that they are selected for further judging. However, the initial viewing must be done without interference from team members, keeping in mind that the exhibits are to be self-explanatory and stand-alone.
- Registration and payment forms are to be filled in and submitted. The deadline is 30 April 2010.
- There is no limit to the number of entries from each school or organisation.
- Each member can only participate in one team.
- Each team can only participate in one category.
- Teams are allowed to take part in categories higher than their education standard.
- Exhibits are confined to the following dimensions: 1.2m (length) x 0.75m (breadth) x 2m (height).
- There is no limit to the expenses of the team. However, exhibits that display a certain resourcefulness and cost-effectiveness will be a plus.
- Exhibits must not cause any safety concerns to both the setup party and their intended audience. No hazardous substances and chemicals are allowed as part of the exhibit.
- There will be no living organisms to be featured as part of the exhibit.
- The exhibit should be able to demonstrate the intended concept within a span of 3 minutes. This applies especially to non-static elements of the exhibit.
- The exhibits are to be self-explanatory. Only one poster, maximum size A1, is allowed as an explanatory guide. Poster stands will be provided. No usage of audio-video devices for explanatory purposes is allowed.
- Plagiarism is a serious offence. All sources must be duly acknowledged and cited. The final product must solely be a result of the effort of the participating team.
- The judges’ decisions are final. Judges’ amendments and discussions are strictly confidential.
- The organising party reserves the right to revoke any prizes awarded should there be evidence of regulation violation.
- The organisers reserve the right to amend the rules and regulations. However, all participants will be informed at least 2 weeks before judging day, should any change be effected.
- Exhibits selected for display will have their intellectual property rights appropriated by Science Centre Singapore.
- The organising committee and their immediate families are barred from participating in this competition.
